Midway Diner
Two words express our visit to this tiny diner, Warm Welcome! From the moment you walk in to the time you leave, you are treated like family. Midway Diner sits on West Franklin St in the heart of Kenton, Ohio.
We pulled up to the building not knowing what to expect, as always, but was welcomed by the sweet smell of something good cooking. The aroma of bacon, sausage and eggs filled the air around us as we made our way to the door of the diner. Walking in we were greeted with a warm "Good Morning!, we think, by the owner of the diner, relaxing at a table talking with the local customers. Nothing in the world can replace a friendly face a welcoming smile.
There were 11 tables and a counter in this tiny eatery and well situated where you feel comfortable not bumping into anyone while enjoying your food. Anywhere in the diner you can watch your meal being prepared by the culinary specialist on the flat grill. There is nothing hidden from you. If you want something prepared a certain way, she's the one for the job.
While deciding what we would like to eat this morning, another group of people came in and sat down next to us and the waitress, Shantell, hopped into action. She retrieved their drinks, their order, our order and presented it to the cook and in no time at all it was delivered hot and fresh to our tables. We ordered the Farmer's Omelet with a side of sausage gravy. (Apparently the sausage gravy gets rave reviews, so we had to try it.) Now there were two options, 2 egg omelet and 3 egg omelet. These omelets were light and fluffy with just the right amount of veggies, meat and cheese. The onions were sauteed to perfection, the peppers were diced not chunked, the bacon and sausage were savory and not dried out.
With the culinary expertise and the experience of the waitress, Shantell, you can't go wrong with a visit to Midway Diner. However, get their early. This place is very popular with the locals and seats fill up fast. Worth the trip for an excellent breakfast. Bon Appetit!
