1946 Berry's Restaurant
A quiet Sunday morning, a community just waking up to the sounds of birds singing and the smell of fresh brewed coffee. Oh what a beautiful morning to venture out and take a step back in time. A time when things were simple, relaxed and no one was in a hurry to get anywhere. Much like this morning when my hubby and I took a country drive. With the windows rolled down, we let the fresh air caress our skin as we drove passed the fields of corn and an occasional farmer in his field. With a sigh of contentment we both had that feeling of hunger. So we ventured to a place that actually took us back in time...in our minds.
We decided to stop at Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk this morning. The heavy wooded door opened
up into a time capsule. We waited by the hosted stand for someone to seat us. Not long after we entered we heard a friendly hello coming from the back of the restaurant. Barb, our waitress, guided us through the tables and sat us at a booth just for two. The walk was as though we were in a very relaxed museum. Photos on the walls of the town in the late 1800's along with portraits of people that were settlers then. As we pondered over the menu we finally made a decision of what was for breakfast. So, let's move onto the what everyone is waiting for...the food!
Well, as usual the hubby ordered his Omelette. But it was not just any omelette. It was the Thompson Candy Kitchen Omelette. It was a mix of honey ham and American cheese inside a fluffy egg shell. Now with this yummy Omelette came golden fried potatoes with grilled onions. And you can't forget the sausage gravy. I have to give credit where credit is due...the gravy rivals my own. It was outstanding! The hubby left with a full tummy.
Now, I have tried several kinds of Eggs Benedict over the last two years. I have ranked them, in my
mind, best to not so good. Well today the scales were tipped. I ordered the Eggs Platt Benedict. As you know the muffin should be crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. This was perfectly toasted. The ham, just thick enough and grilled ever so slowly to bring out the flavor of the ham and it laid over the muffin. The eggs were poached to perfection and the sauce is their own. Rich and creamy but not to bold as to take away from the other flavors. I had to rank this 1 1/2. There is only one Eggs Benedict that outranks them all so far but this was a very close 1.
We all love to slow down a little and just take a deep breath once in a while. So why not take a step back in time as well and visit Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk, Ohio. You can walk through time and take a moment to just breathe.
Bon Appetit!!
