Dark Horse Restaurant
A very wise woman once told me, "God only gives us what we can handle." Well, some days I wonder just how much he is going to give me to handle. I can relate to all small business owners, like myself, when it comes to customer/clientele. You want to keep what you have and gain new ones in the the near future. We research the diner/restaurant before hand and read the reviews. Then we go and experience it ourselves. I will say this, some of the reviews we have read do not hold true to OUR experiences. So that is why we ask our readers to go and form their own opinions. With that being said...we decided to go to the Dark Horse Restaurant this raining spring morning. We pulled into the parking lot about 8 minutes before opening. While waiting, there were several other vehicles pulling in wanting what we wanted...a fantastic breakfast.
When we walked in the young lady at the hostess stand very pleasantly asked us how many was in our group and seated us promptly...with a very nice personality I might add. We sat against the wall so we could get a good view of the decor. Everything was very well lit and cozy. The tables accommodated couples up to large groups of family members. Oh, by the way....the young lady behind the counter...thats Kodi. You couldn't ask for a better waitress. Especially when they give their entire heart and soul to making the customer happy. And Kodi does just that. I will say tears were shed due to some unfortunate events that happened this morning but she made them right. Here, let me explain.
As you well know, the hubby almost always orders his beloved omelette.
Today was no exception. He ordered the Works omelette which included bacon, sausage, ham, onions, potatoes and cheese. This comes with toast or a tortilla. As you can see from the picture, there is no toast. We had asked for it but it still did not arrive. The egg was extremely overdone and a bit chewy. However, here is the upside...the flavors on the inside of the omelette were very tasty. Even the potatoes were good. And he doesn't like potatoes. A+ for that one! We also asked for a side of sausage gravy to go with the omelette. When it came out with the rest of the food it was cold. Kodi took it back and 1/2 way through our breakfast it came out........again.....cold. (I don't know what to say about that)
I ordered something rather different this morning. I love potato skins, loaded. So when I saw that there were breakfast potato skins on the menu, I had to have them. When they were brought out I was literally drooling. Look how delicious. I was going to enjoy every bite. Yeah......not so much. I tried to cut one of the skins and it was literally charred. Now, the sausage and eggs
were very good, but when I tried to bite into the potato skin I cut my mouth. I understand that some things can go awry when working in a kitchen. Been there, done that...many times. However, the person doing the cooking should have realized that when these were taken from the deep fryer they should have never been served. Just my own opinion folks.
So here's the part you will want to take note of. The wait staff, the entire crew of people walking the floor...KUDDO'S!!! There are several young kids working to keep coffee cups filled and tables cleared. I have never seen this before and I have to admit, it was fantastic to see such a great group of kids working together like a well oiled machine. Now this is the part where I tell you about the tears Kodi shed. When she asked us how our meal was and we were honest with her, she was horrified. She came back and comped our meal, pretty much down to nothing. This was something I DO NOT expect. I even tried to argue with her but I lost. If I eat part of my meal I expect to pay for what I eat. (Here come the tears ->) After our meal I always tell the waitress who we are and why we review little diners. She was so upset that our meal was not perfect she was heartbroken. Now that is someone who takes HEART in what they do and they pride themselves on everything they do. Kodi, we had a wonderful experience just being there and seeing your bright smile. You can't fix everything but you did your damndest to make it better. That is all you can do. The rest is up to the customer.
I was approached by the owner of this establishment shortly after our visit. She wanted to know what she could do to make it better and hope that we would give it a "Second Chance." Neeli, it was already made better by Kodi. You have a real gem on your hands with your waitstaff. And it shows. As we do travel all over Ohio, I am not sure when we will return to The Dark Horse, but we will give it a second chance.
Listen people....everyone has bad days. No matter what anyone thinks. So go and visit the Dark Horse located on Main Street in Findlay, Ohio. Enjoy your food and form your own opinions. And don't forget to follow us on Twitter @anileigh3. Bon Appetit!!
