Mansfield Family Restaurant
Okay people, what is the most important part of breakfast? Anyone? The food of course. When you order breakfast you expect a meal that is prepared with love, tenderness and the most tastiest ingredients mother nature gave us, right? Well that's what I expect. Not so much in this case.
We decided to travel to Mansfield Family Restaurant in Mansfield, Ohio upon a recommendation from someone my husband knows. With this weekend being my step son's 24th Birthday we decided to treat him to a wonderful home cooked breakfast. We pile in my car and head out.
Mansfield Family Restaurant sits in two different locations in this city. One on Main Street and the other on Park Ave West.
We chose the one on Main Street. Upon entering the diner we found it to be over heated. Yes I said over heated. It was down right blazing hot in there. Okay, no big deal. Unless you are going through HOT FLASHES. And if not, you would by the time you left. There was plenty of seating available but was super loud. We were greeted very pleasantly with menus and were asked what we wanted to drink. I was surprised at how fast and friendly the wait staff was.
On to the menus. All three of us agreed on omelets. My step son ordered the Southwest Chicken omelet, my hubby ordered the Louis omelet (which is the western omelet with sausage, ham and bacon) and I ordered the simple Ham and Cheese omelet with hashbrowns on the inside. The waitress no sooner took our order and within five minutes food was ALMOST handed to us. It was for the next table. The family joked with us and we joked right back. We all laughed about it. Then about three minutes later our food came out and was almost handed to the table next to us.
Alright.....soooo wait staff is friendly and obviously overworked and way under paid. OR there is a lack of communication within the ranks. This does happen occasionally when you are short staffed. Which we found out upon leaving.
Back to the food. All three omelets had great flavor and were piping hot. The only complaint everyone had was that there was hardly any meat to the omelets. When you pay for a good meal you actually want what you paid for. If I hadn't asked for the hashbrowns IN my omelet it would have been just a tiny bit of cheese and a few very small pieces of ham. Same goes for all the omelets. If you want meat in your omelet ask for an extra serving.
We were about half done with our food when our waitress stops by our table and asks us if we needed anything else since she is going on break and wouldn't be able to stop again. When we said no, she literally threw the check on our table and practically ran off. One, you NEVER tell a customer you are going on break. You tell a coworker to watch your table and help them if they need it. Second, you hand the check to the coworker and tell them to hand the table the check if they don't need anything else and share the tip from that table. This is common practice in any establishment. NEVER NEVER NEVER throw a check and run so you can go smoke a cigarette or talk to your boyfriend. BAD customer service.
Folks, if you try this family diner you will not go home hungry but you will be scratching your head as to if they were short on meat as there were staff. Try this diner for yourselves and feel free to write your own review and tell us about it. Would we go back? Probably not unless we were in the area and were really hungry and low on gas in the car. Bon Appétit!
