Backroads Diner

When you think of a small town in the middle of nowhere you think to yourself, "Wow...this is out in the boonies on some Back Road". Well, I came from those back roads in the country and loved every minute of it. You wake up in the morning, open your windows and breathe in the smell of sunshine and morning dew. The only sound you hear is that of someone in the kitchen starting a meal. Ahhhhh.....country cooking at it's best. And if you want the best, here it is!!! We traveled to Attica, Ohio to The Backroads Diner. This little diner sits on State Route 4 just outside of Attica. As you can tell there isn't much signage accept for the sign at the road side.

When we entered the building we were in awe. The waitress was very pleasant and quick to serve. I normally get the name of our waitress but this time I forgot to ask...I'm only human...We were greeted with smiles from the the gentlemen sitting next to doorway. Their conversation was quite humorous...Customer #1 - "did you go to your X-wifes wedding?" Customer #2-"Nope...But I went to her funeral." I almost fell off my chair.

The atmosphere is cozy and charming. Americana art dons the walls. There is plenty of seating everywhere. If you have a large group of people they have a side room with tons of room for everyone.

Now....On to the food!

My husbands loves his omelets and today was no exception. He ordered the Hungry Traveler

Omelet. It was the behemoth of all omelets. This omelet was at least 2 1/2 inches think filled with sausage, ham, bacon, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and hashbrowns. And of course toast on the side. I added a little homemade sausage gravy to the mix as well. Every flavor was mingled perfectly with the other complimenting each bite.

I had the Backroads Special to start my day. It consisted of two eggs, I got mine over medium,

hash browns, toast and bacon. I was the culprit and added the side of sausage gravy. This breakfast takes me back to when my son was just about 2 years old. I would order something similar to this and we would share it. So today, I honor him. He is now 24 years old and purchased his first home. So naturally he's going to have to learn how to make this wonderful breakfast for himself and his daughter to share. (coming in august)

I have nothing but RAVES about Backroads Diner. The staff helps in the kitchens as well as wait tables. Talk about multi tasking. And if you like pie...yes I said PIE! Backroads Diner has the best pie around. And several kinds to be exact. The owner, Peg, makes the pies fresh daily. These are not store bought. These pies would make your grandmother blush. Thick, flavorful and with a flaky crust. Mmm Mmm Mmm!!

So if you are looking for home made everything, look at The Backroads Diner. Where down home on the farm cooking is at its best...and don't forget the pie...because at Backroads Diner, pie fixes everything! Bon Appetit!!
