Mike's Place
What's there to do on a beautiful Memorial Day? Watch a parade? Go swimming? Ehhh, maybe after you visit Mike's Place in Kent, Ohio for breakfast! My husband has been wanting to go to Mike's Place for several weeks. So today we decided it was time to explore this "Place" and see what they had to offer. When you pull into the parking area you will see a home built X wing plane with a Ford symbol on the back of it...hahaha. The hubby thought this was hilarious. It grabs your attention by golly. And rightfully so.
The inside of Mike's place is just as exuberant. The signage on the walls speaks for itself. The buses on the other hand, well, Mike himself explained how he managed to acquire them. I will say this. If you want the true story, go to Mike's Place, have a great meal, look around and ask where the buses came from. You won't be disappointed.
Now to the best part of this blog...The food, of course.
Cody, our waiter, was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. He should, he has been there for seven years. He loves to meet people from all over and help them pick a meal they will never stop talking about.
My hubby was undecided about what to have until Cody suggested the He-Man breakfast. As you can tell, this was of He-Man size. Three eggs cooked to your liking, hash browns delicately browned with Italian sausage smothered in caramelized onions and thinly sliced green peppers. Oh, and don't forget about the four slices of toast to round out the meal. This breakfast almost broke the hubby. But he nearly finished it all with a smile on his face.
I, on the other hand, love Eggs Benedict. However, this was not your ordinary Eggs Benedict. This was Eggs "My way or the Highway" Benedict. A lightly toasted english muffin set the stage. Add a pile of thinly sliced smoked ham, two eggs any way you want them and on top...rich and creamy cheddar cheese sauce. Don't forget the hash browns to compliment this wonderful meal. It was a push for me to finish this delightful feast but, of course, I had to. It's Eggs Benedict!
After our meal we were invited to walk around and take photos to remember our first visit there. We were honored to meet and talk with the owner Mike. What a guy. He has been in business for 31 years and going strong. He told us all about how he started out his business and the brains behind the X wing plane out front. It was truly awesome to meet you Mike. We had a great time and will return to Mike's again and again. Just like the couple from West Virginia that come three times a week to eat there. Well, maybe we could do that.
If you are out and about and running low on fuel for the body, stop by Mike's Place and grab a bite to eat. Their menu is vast and you may have to ask for help in deciding which great meal you want. However, the only thing you won't be undecided about is the fact that you will be treated like royalty at Mike's Place. He even has the castle to prove it.
Bon Appetit my friends!!
