Everyday People Cafe
Good Morning breakfast lovers!! I was asked, just the other day, how we come about our opinions when we review diners and little family owned establishments. Well, that's very easy to answer. When I was growing up we had a couple of different cultures mingling in our family. We had Irish from my mother, German, Scottish and Cherokee Indian from my father. We learned how to survive by eating what we caught, killed or raised. We also learned that when living on a farm, you pulled your own weight and did your part to help out the family. Through this education in my family I learned a great number of things. One of them was how to cook an excellent meal with farm fresh eggs, hand raised pork and fresh milk from the dairy cows. Now I understand that convenience is everything nowadays but put a little effort into something and make it yours. It's that simple folks. With that being said, I, unfortunately, have to write this review. (Place sad face here)
We have been told about Everyday People Cafe numerous times and just about everyone raves about it. So we decided to try it today. Everyday People Cafe sits on Main street in Bowling Green. If you have a GPS use it to find this place because there is no sign out front on the street to let you
know you have arrived at your destination. This is a very cozy cafe with plenty of room for everyone. Tables and booths are spread throughout the cafe. It doesn't have many but if you get there early enough you'll get a good seat. If you get the pleasure of sitting in the booth we sat in (the one by the patio door with the broken ceiling fan running on full blast) you may enjoy the view whilst freezing to death. (Notice the little boy in the high chair...he was cold too)
Don't get me wrong...I would love to give this Cafe five stars. However, my conscience won't let me. We were seated promptly when we arrived. The hostess/waitress, I really don't think, knew what she needed to do. She never asked us if we wanted anything to drink. Not sure what was going on there. I told her what we wanted to drink and she said, "Oh yeah!" as if she had forgotten that part. I'll cut her some slack. Maybe she was up all night studying for summer classes or didn't have enough sleep for whatever reason. I'll give her an A+ for politeness. Needless to say, the service was less than stellar. When she brought our drinks hubby stated that the coffee had been sitting for a while and it tasted burnt. He should know. He's a coffee connoisseur.
On to the food. As you can see this omelet looks appetizing, right? Meh....My hubby loves his omelets so he built his own with sausage, ham, onion and cheese. If you look closely you can see the sausage was burnt and the omelet was laden with grease. He ate almost all of his omelet with the exception of a few pieces of burnt sausage. I asked him why he forced it. He stated, " I was hungry". And when your hungry you'll eat just about anything. He picked out the ham, onion and cheese and left the remainder.
I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu omelet. I love me some Chicken Cordon Bleu! Well, this was not
what I expected. The description stated it had "fried chicken", ham and cheese inside the omelet. When it arrived I was diggin' in like nobody's business. I ate a piece of the "fried chicken" and, well, it wasn't fried chicken. It tasted like Tyson chicken tenders that were deep fried and cut up. The ham and swiss cheese were good though. I thought I could tough it out but could only eat a small portion due to the grease on
everything. (See photo of the grease on the table from the plates) I pushed it aside and waited for the hubby to finish. Our waitress finally swung by our table and asked if I wanted a box for the remainder of my meal. I politely said, no way, and she whisked away my plate never to return except with the hardy amount of a check. I tried to flag her down a couple of times but she was no where near our table.
I really don't like giving a bad review since this place gets a ton of really good ones. Maybe we went on a day where the cook was having a bad day. Maybe it was an oversight. Not sure what the problem was. However, try it for yourselves and you be the judge. This is one place we, unfortunately, will not return to. Bon Appe......well, maybe not in this case. (SAD FACE)
