Greg's Grill

On our many travels to find the best home made breakfasts we really don't run into the owners of any establishments. We normally get to a diner, restaurant and take a quick photo of the place before we head inside. On this particular beautiful morning we arrived at Greg's Grill prior to them opening for the day. We took a quick photo and was waiting for our son, Dillon and his girl, Claire to join us when a voice from across the parking lot said, "UH OH! This can't be good!" And with a jovial chuckle he stretched out his hand to greet us warmly and said, "Hi! I'm Greg! Nice to meet you folks." What a wonderful way to greet a new face. When we were done conversing with Greg and finding out he has a second location opening soon in Downtown Toledo, we took the kids inside for some much needed food.

On this particular morning we were meeting with our son and his girl in Toledo, OH. So we found a nice little diner on Sylvania Ave. When I say little I mean LITTLE. From the outside you can tell it was small but on the inside it had a ton of charm and the atmosphere was welcoming. As you can see from the outside the sign above the building is one you can't miss when driving by.

The inside of Greg's Grill, as you can see, has plenty of seating for everyone along with a playlist that will take you back in time. We were greeted with a few Chuck Berry songs, followed by a few of Kenny Loggins and my favorite...The Banana Boat song by Harry Belafonte. We all chimed in when The Lion Sleeps Tonight came on by the Tokens. We love making memories. Especially these kind.

Okay...now as many of you know I love to comment on the wait staff. If they are good, great, poor...no matter what, I like to keep our readers informed. Well, today is no different. Readers...Meet Justin, our waiter for the morning. He was extremely patient, kind and always had a smile on his face. Not to mention he juggles three coffee mugs and three waters in one trip! My husband likes to pick on people, he gets that from his father, and...sorry Justin, tag you're it, today. Justin keeps tables clean, customers happy and always at the ready if you need anything. Great Job!

Now to what you all want to know about...how's the food? By the looks of this omelet I would have to say the food is FABULOUS! This is the Mountain Omelet. It is packed with ham, onions, red and yellow peppers, cheddar cheese mixed into these wonderfully fluffy eggs. Add a side of home fries, bacon and wheat toast and you won't go home hungry. Don't forget the coffee...it's good and hot and they keep your mug filled to the rim.

I on the other hand like a burrito occasionally and today was a super treat for me. This behemoth was enough for two people. I tried to eat all of it but I just couldn't do it. I could only eat half. Inside this golden brown tortilla shell was a mix of light and fluffy scrambled eggs, home fries, grilled onions, bacon, mushrooms and cheese. Add a side of sour cream with a bite or two and you'll be in heaven too.

On a lighter note, Dillon ordered a more traditional breakfast. Eggs sunny side up, which were perfectly cooked and the whites were white...not brown. Home fries that were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sausage patties, Greg makes these himself every morning. Add a side of swirled rye toast and he was a happy camper.

Did someone say, lighter side? Yes, yes I did. There is nothing more satisfying and more healthy than a bowl of steel cut oats with blueberries and strawberries. Claire is a wonderful young lady that likes to watch what she eats. And with this breakfast it is not only filling it's also very good for you.

I know this post is a little longer than most of them but when I boast about a diner it means it is very good and you need to try it. Greg's grill has many options on their menu from soups, sandwiches, entree's to a down home cooked breakfast, lunch or dinner. He also has some lighter menu items for health conscience customers as well. Our suggestion??? If you love to laugh, listen to great music throughout time and want a great meal visit Greg's Grill on Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH. Downtown location coming soon. (PSSSST-Greg? How's that for advertising?) As always, try them for yourselves and let everyone know what YOU think. Bon Appetit!
