The Farmers Daughter Restaurant
Some people say you can never go back home. I did! While Ubana is not my home but rather my mothers and grandparents home, my hubby and I were blessed to meet the young couple that purchased their farm. Tears were shed on both parts and memories were abundant. We can't thank them enough for allowing us to wander the old homestead and take a few more memories with us.
While we were there we decided to have breakfast at The Farmers Daughter Restaurant. A very popular place with the community for a great home cooked meal. As you can see from the exterior, this restaurant fits right in with the farming community. The barn shape of the restaurant is not very typical but very unique. We especially loved the Farmall tractor that was sitting right our front.
The interior was very welcoming and had a very homey feel to it.
Everything was clean and open. The decor was perfect for the setting, right down to the hand stitched quilt hanging over the fireplace in the main dining room.
Ok...I can hear someone saying, "How's the food?" Let me tell ya in one word...AMAZING!!
The hubby loves his omelets and today he got a special treat. He ordered the Everything Omelet. This bad boy was packed with ham, bacon, sausage, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, diced tomatoes and cheese...lots of cheese, inside and out. And with any breakfast omelet you get toast. This toast was lightly toasted and brushed with REAL butter. What a treat. Not to
mention the cinnamon roll he took home. This light flavorful pastry is made in house and smothered in a rich creamy frosting. I recommend you take some home with you as well because after this breakfast you won't have room in your belly.
I on the other hand, went outside of the box I am normally prone to being in and ordered the Country skillet. Golden fried hash browns, fluffy scrambled eggs, topped with sausage gravy and cheese. All of this goodness is served to you in none other than a cast iron skillet. And it was pipin hot to boot. Along with this i ordered the warm cinnamon apples. It must be a southern thing, but everything you try tastes so much better when you feel at home.
I forgot to mention our waitress, who was spot on with everything. Chrisitna knows her way around a dining room. She never missed a beat with any of the tables she had. She kept a watchful eye on your coffee mug and made sure your dining experience was a great one.
Our recommendation is that if you haven't tried The Farmers Daughter Restaurant, do so. And don't forget to stop at their bakery and gift shop next door. They have hand made chocolates, cookies as big as your hand and pies all made by the Amish community along with clothing, jewelry, home decor and kids items. It was great to be back home even it was was for only a short part of a day. So if you are in Urbana, stop by the Farmers Daughter Restaurant. Sit a spell and make your own memories. Bon Appetit.
