Bates Farm Kitchen

What a beautiful morning to travel to a place we've driven through to get somewhere else only stopping occasionally. This mornings breakfast is brought to you by Bates Farm Kitchen in Sandusky Ohio. We read the reviews, which were very mixed, looked at the menu, which was only written on a huge blackboard behind the counter and decided to see for ourselves if this was really what others were saying about it. Now mind you, THIS is what we do. We read the reviews, look at the photos posted, look at the menu and decided where we want to go. Then we write about our experiences so that others may want to go to that place and form their own opinion. So lets get on with it. As you can see the sun

was up and the morning was perfect for sitting outside to enjoy the sunrise. However, we took a seat inside to get a feel for the place. There is plenty of room to sit a group of people at the picnic tables or a table for two or four. Don't forget the seating outside as well. When we entered the diner we were greeted by Ciera, our waitress and she gave us options on where we could sit. We opted for a table out of the way of traffic and was able to get a good look around.

In all my years waiting tables and being in the public eye, I never thought I would meet someone as cheery and personable as myself. She really knows her way around a dining room and kitchen. She never missed a beat on refilling coffee or delivering food. She was there to share her story as well as listen to others tell theirs. PSSSST - she's a keeper!

Ok ok...I can hear you sighing...on to the food!

As you can see from the photo the hubby couldn't wait to dig into his omelet before he took a picture. Now, y'all know the hubby is not big on home fries. However, today he tried them and of course gobbled them up. The bacon was thick cut and perfected cooked and not over done and hard. The flavor was amazing too. Now that omelet was called the Garbage omelet. It had everything in it but the kitchen sink. Ham, sausage, bacon, caramelized onions, amish cheddar cheese and was smothered in their sausage gravy to boot. Now, my hubby can normally finish an omelet but today this one kicked his butt. He gave it a good go around though.

I, on the other hand, well, could only eat half of mine and had to take the other half home. I have had Breakfast burritos before, but this monster takes the Blue Ribbon! The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, the bacon was nestled in between the Amish cheddar cheese and the perfectly cooked home fries. Top it off with a bit of sour cream and brown the outside to hold all that goodness inside. Serve it up with some salsa on the side and you have an award winning breakfast.

On our many adventures all over Ohio, we look for different menu items to try or compare the ones that we have tried at other diners. Today is no exception. We encourage our readers to visit other places, drop us a line and let us know your thoughts and opinions. However, this little out of the way, and I mean out of the way ( it sits in a strip mall in the corner. "No one puts Baby in a corner" - Dirty Dancing") diner is out of this world. Great service, open kitchen so you can see everything that goes on. (Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain - Wizard of OZ")

So if you like those movie references then go, eat, have fun with family and friends and give yourselves a treat. Stop at the Bates Farm Kitchen. Not only do there serve up a great breakfast their coffee is out of this world with trivia to talk about it. Bon Appetit!
