What a day! Rain, wind, lake wakes and white caps. The Sandusky Bay was extremely unfriendly today. However, we made the best of it by dining at Baybell Restaurant. Some people think we are crazy for driving up to 5 hours to review a diner but for us it's an adventure and we get to meet new people and make friends from strangers. Today, well...we didn't find any friends. The atmosphere was like that of the Sandusky Bay...unfriendly...to a degree. Let me set the stage.

We walk in the side door to this little eatery and see several tables that we could sit at to enjoy our meal. We chose to sit by a window that gives a great view of the bay. I was greeted by Judy, our waitress

who is also the manager. She asked what we wanted to drink and off she went. But before she did she lay two menus on the table and went back to the juicy conversation that was happening behind the counter. The hubby joined me after he used the facilities since it was a long drive to get there. After a few minutes Judy came back and took our order. No smiles, no thank you, only what seemed to be a grunt. Now...she might have been having a bad day. Someone might have called off and she was short handed. Either way, we felt as though we were outsiders and not wanted. The food on the other hand was very good. So lets talk about that.

Normally the hubby and I don't order the same thing but today we did. It just sounded really good on a cold rainy day. We got the Meat Lovers omelet. The light and fluffy egg concoction is filled with ham, bacon and sausage topped with cheese and served with their crispy home fries and toast. Now when you think of an omelet you think all the goodness is packed inside ready to fall out with every bite. Well this beauty was all mixed together and it left nothing to wonder. It was delicious! Hats off to chef! We did order a side of sausage gravy but I wasn't liking it. It may be someone elses tantalizing treat but I will have to pass on it.

The atmosphere of Baybell was that of oddness. I say this because the couple behind us were treated like family while we were pretty much ignored. When the food came to our table it was hurried and almost thrown at us. My hubby had a few refills on his coffee which is a good thing because he loves his java. However, no one asked how our meal was or if they could get us anything else. They just ran by and dropped the check and said, no hurry.

People, I work in the public eye. I have my own business. You want repeat customers, you treat them like family not outsiders. You get to know your client base not chase them away. You, yeah, you! The one reading this blog. Go...eat...form your own opinions. We are only here to offer OUR opinions and experiences. Bon appetit.
