Kat's Iron Skillet

Good morning all! I know it's been a while since I posted a new diner. However, I have had some issues that are now resolved and will posting again weekly. And what better way to begin again than with this little country gem! Kat's Iron Skillet sits on SR 224 in Greenwich, Ohio. You literally cannot miss it. It used to be an icon of the little village as an ice cream stand many years ago and is favorite with the locals. There is plenty of parking on three sides of the building and handicapped parking as well.

As you can see from the inside of this diner it seats quite a few people comfortably. The hubby

and I chose to sit in a booth to watch the hustle and bustle on the streets as people hurry to church.

Every nook and cranny was well kept and clean. It felt like home. We were greeted with a very friendly waitress and a very courteous smile. She knew how to make her customers happy. She always made sure coffee was refilled and asked if there was anything more she could do. Kuddos!!

Speaking of home, this little diner will make you a breakfast that tastes like you made it yourself in your own kitchen. The cook, we found out, was very new (only 2-3 weeks employed) but was extremely knowledgeable about her technique when making something delicious.

The hubby ordered the Everything omelet this morning. It was quite a treat for him. This fluffy egg creation had Sausage, ham, onion, green peppers, mushrooms stuffed inside topped with cheese. But....how can you make this scrumptious omelet even better...put some "Tastes Like Grandma's" sausage gravy on top. Yes I said it....This gravy was the BOMB!! Don't forget those hash browns. These puppies are not frozen. They boil the potatoes then either shred them or slice them depending on what you want. Hubby added onions and cheese. He didn't say a whole lot during the meal. He was a happy boy!

And as you all know...I am a creature of habit...Yes you guessed it...Corned beef Hash and eggs! I am pretty particular about my hash and eggs. If you burn it I will not be very happy. If the eggs are over/under done, I will send it back. Today....PERFECTION!! The hash was perfectly browned and pippin hot. The eggs ordered were supposed to be over medium but I got over easy. Not a huge deal...they were delicious. Now, I know toast is hard to ruin but in any case we have had toast with NO butter or a drop of butter on it. Today couldn't have been more perfect. The toast had an even layer of butter on it and it pared nicely with the apple butter that was on the table.

In a nutshell...Take time to experience little out of the way diners. And...while your at it...be courteous and tip the wait staff well. Some of them only have this one job and they appreciate the effort YOU put into the dining experience as well. A kind word also goes a very long way!

Bon Appetit!!
