The Depot Family Restaurant

We were in Sandusky, Ohio this morning wanting to try a little pub and grill called The Cove Inn. They stated on their website that they opened at 8am. Well much to their dismay, they lost our money. However, we did some searching on the net and found a couple different diners that we haven't been to just yet. The Depot

Family Restaurant won the prize, literally. This little, out of the way, family diner sits on the edge of Sandusky, Ohio right on Route 6. And let me tell you this...What a refreshing way to start our day! The wait staff was super friendly and outgoing. So much so, I thought I was right in my own home at my kitchen table. I am not sure what the waitress's name was but she was a welcomed treat this morning. We took our seats at the corner window and my hubby noticed that this little diner

grinds its own coffee. Talk about fresh. As you can see there is plenty of room for a group of people or a table for two. Don't let the outside fool you. The inside is cozy and has a homey feel to it. Now...what you all have been waiting for.....How was the food???

As you all know my hubby hardly strays from his norm...the omelet. I don't blame him, really. It literally is a scrumptious meal all rolled into one. (Pun intended) So with that in mind he didn't take long to decide what he wanted this morning. Matching his personality he went with The Crazy Omelet. This wonderful fluffy egg delight was jam packed with perfectly grilled sweet onions, monster sized mushrooms, red ripe tomatoes, seared green peppers, flavorful ham and country sausage. Now, add in some swiss and american cheese and you got yourselves one hell of an omelet. Now when you get the omelet you get home fries as well. These puppies were pippin' hot and he added grilled onion to them to add to the flavor. Top it off with some wheat toast and, viola! Breakfast fit for a hungry belly.

Now, as many of you know I am a corn beef hash girl. And I have eaten my fair share and will tell you they are not all created, or cooked, equal. However, today's hash was perfect! Steamin' hot and just the right amount of crispiness on the outside. I, of course, added grilled sweet onion to my tatters as well. The only thing missing was the rest of our family.

We have traveled many places within the last two years to find the most out of the way, down home cooking, places you can visit. I have to admit, some of the best places are hidden right under your noses in your own home towns and villages. Others, well, if you're willing to search a little bit for them, then they are worth a visit. If you are reading this and live in Sandusky, Ohio, please go venture out to The Depot Family Restaurant. You will be pleasantly surprised by the home town feel, the big hearts behind the food and the smiling faces. And don't forget to tip your wait staff!

Bon Appetit!!!
